Grainger Street |
This street was named after the builder Richard Grainger, who constructed many of Newcastle's finest streets and buildings.
The medieval church of St John the Baptist stands on the right. It was originally consecrated at some time between 1145 and 1245 AD. The tower dates back to the fifteenth century. In the 1890 photograph, the horse-drawn tram is heading towards the Central Station. It advertises Inman's, a local pharmacy. |
