Haymarket |

The distinctive circular building is the Haymarket Metro station. Behind it,
you can see the tower of the Civic Centre and the statue of a bronze angel erected
in 1908 in memory of the soldiers who died in the Boer War.
The church of St Thomas was designed by John Dobson and built in 1830 on the site of the former leper hospital. As well as a market for hay and straw, the area was also known as the Parade Ground, where the Newcastle Volunteers would line up for inspection. |
